Whisper Megaphone

Frimmet was walking past

a tree wearing ivy bracelets

around its ankles.

A woodpecker was renovating

the upstairs.

Two grasshoppers compared

their knees nearby.

Frimmet smiled.

"Morning."

One grasshopper leaned closer.

"What?"

"Morning."

Frimmet said it a little quieter.

The other grasshopper

leaned closer too.

Frimmet's smile grew wider.

A caterpillar stopped.

Checked for traffic.

Then stepped onto

the smile.

Frimmet kept walking.

The caterpillar crossed.

Near the pond, the wind tossed

leaves across the trail.

One landed on a heron's head.

Frimmet leaned down.

"Nice hat."

The heron looked up.

"Oh."

It left the hat on.

A puddle beside them was busy

making ripples.

Frimmet whispered something

to a cricket tying its shoelace.

The cricket leaned closer.

So did the puddle.

Its ripples slipped toward

the bank.

Farther along, a snail handed

Frimmet a megaphone.

Frimmet whispered into it.

The megaphone whispered back.

Frimmet smiled wider.

The caterpiller returned with a friend.

By the pond, everyone had

gathered around a crooked log.

Birds called from the trees.

Water tumbled over rocks.

Three herons in hats were

having different conversations.

Frimmet said something.

Everyone leaned closer.

Frimmet said it again.

Closer.

Soon they were standing

in one ridiculous little bunch.

A grasshopper had somehow

ended up on top.

"What did you say?"

Frimmet grinned.

"Ice Cream."

The grasshopper nodded.

Frimmet smiled.

Traffic resumed.

The moon smiled upside down.

The earth whispered, "Wheee."

And there are popsicles on

Thursdays.
